Our impressive Ecotopes – ecological zones
of similar climate and soil conditions – are richly detailed but
take up minimal disk space.
Using a combination of terrain-analysis and mathematical
modelling, we are able to model plant growth over terrain in
A typical ecotope description takes up only four megabytes for
all textures, bump maps and mathematical formulas, while
accurately placing tens of thousands of trees and millions of
smaller plants for a detailed effect.
During runtime, every pixel on the terrain is analysed and the
correct ecotopes are assigned. These in turn apply a colour map,
displacement map and will generate plants on the terrain.
